SUMMARY:Annual Lower Cowichan River Cleanup 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Quw’utsun Sta’lo’ (Cowichan River) is the heart of our valley. With everything the sta’lo’ gives us\, it’s our turn to give back.\n\nJoin the Cowichan Watershed Board\, Cowichan Tribes\, and the Cowichan Valley Regional District for the 16th annual Lower Cowichan River Cleanup on Sunday\, August 23rd! All are welcome and no experience is necessary!\n\n\n9:30AM – Sign-in and meet your team leader10:00AM – Welcome10:30AM – Cleanup begins12:00PM – Volunteer BBQ begins\n\nWhat to bring? Sturdy shoes that are okay to get wet\, sunscreen and a hat\, a water bottle\, and gloves (if you have them). You may also bring swimwear\, a snorkel\, and/or flotation!\n\n\nAt the Cleanup\, we come together to learn and work as a community. With opportunities to swim\, wade\, walk\, or paddle\, you get to choose your own fun and adventure! And by joining us\, you can help make our river a safer and healthier place for creatures and people alike. Afterwards\, enjoy a free BBQ lunch with neighbours\, friends\, and connections new and old.\n\nSummer low flows in the sta’lo’ call for a community-wide push to protect our watershed. Our annual Cleanup helps to remove staggering amounts of garbage from more than 15-kilometres of the river before fall rains can carry it downstream. Working together\, we can make a big difference!\n\nThe Cowichan Watershed Board is a partnership between Cowichan Tribes and the Cowichan Valley Regional District. It exists to provide leadership for sustainable water management and to protect and enhance the environmental quality and quality of life in the Cowichan and Koksilah watersheds and adjoining areas.\n\nQuestions? Contact our River Cleanup Coordinator\, Katia Bannister (she/her) at rivercleanup@cowichanwatershedboard.ca.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Restoration - Ladysmith
DESCRIPTION:Every 1st Monday of the month – Transfer Beach Native Plant beds between the Kinsman Hut and Amphitheatre. Led by Nikki Toxopeus.  Come and visit us there between 10 and noon as we weed and collect seeds.  We had a blast last Monday as Jeremiah shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for all the native grasses and forbs in our beds.  We labelled the plants\, made notes\, and know more on how to best harvest them for Sunny Glades.

SUMMARY:Maple Mountain Broom Pull
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Maple Mountain Warriors pulling broom in a “special place”. Though its generally true: “Cut Broom in Bloom”\, the rare wildflowers of this location bloom at the same time as the broom\, and we do not want to trample those. \nDo you have a friend who is feeling particularly helpless about the state of the world? Bring them along – pulling broom is the best way to beat climate blues! \nThis session will be particularly impactful as we will be joined by a solid crew from HAT in Victoria – SO START TIME IS STILL TO BE DETERMINED. \nIf you can\, please let the Land Trust know you are coming.
