A hot dog lunch will be provided to participants by the Honeymoon Bay Community Society after the event. Todd Carnahan\, a local FireSmart representative from Emergency Management Cowichan\, will give a 15 minute presentation at noon about protecting our homes from wildfire and a rebate program available for pursuing FireSmart recommendations on your property!  Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather as the event will go on as long as conditions remain safe and workable. Bring drinking water and any snacks you would like. Register if possible before the event.

DESCRIPTION:Join us to monitor nest boxes in the Open Air Classroom in Somenos Marsh. Located just off the highway\, north of the Beverly Street intersection the Open Air Classroom is a hidden gem\, and a wonderful spot to experience the Somenos marsh\, spot wildlife and learn about wetlands. We will be emptying the nest boxes around the boardwalk to record use and species\, which helps us improve our marsh-wide nest box program. \nPlease bring water\, weather appropriate clothing\, rubber boots and be ready to climb up and down a ladder as we will be working off the boardwalk. \nIf you would like to join us please email phaedra@somenosmarsh.com.

DESCRIPTION:Young and old\, novice and pro birders are all welcome to join in the Coastal Bird Counts at high tide on the second Sunday of each month. . The route is along a nice flat track. Sea lions tend to be an added attraction for the first few months. Later on\, the Great Blue Herons at the Rookery are fun to watch as well.
