CWB Speakers Night – From the Edge of Extinction: Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery
May 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeVancouver Island’s endemic marmot is one of the most endangered mammal species on the planet. In 2003, fewer than 30 marmots remained in the alpine and sub-alpine reaches of Vancouver Island watersheds. Though the future remains uncertain, their population has begun to rebound, with a record-breaking “baby boom” in recent years. Join the Cowichan Watershed Board and Adam Taylor to learn more about the ongoing effort to recover the Vancouver Island marmot. In his presentation, Adam will lead us through where the marmot came from, how it nearly went extinct, ongoing recovery efforts, and the challenges still faced by these unique creatures.
